ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Ground and air crews are searching Denali National Park and Preserve for two women missing on what was supposed to be a short backpacking trip.
Searchers with dogs were looking for Abby Flantz, 25, of Gaylord, Minnesota, and Erica Nelson, 23, of Las Vegas, Nevada. The hikers were reported overdue Saturday when they did not show up for work at a hotel outside the park. The women were last seen Thursday at the Savage River check station about 15 miles from park headquarters; they had planned to return Friday.
Nelson was supposed to be on a plane Sunday night to fly to Houston, where she was set to be maid of honor in her sister's wedding, park spokeswoman Kris Fister said. Ground and air crews have searched nearly 100 square miles of the nearly 9,400-square-mile park. Searchers were planning to camp out Monday night about three miles from where the women were last seen, Fister said.
Not so fast, say moms of girls, who point out that they have to contend with fussier fashion sense, more prickly social navigations, and a far greater capacity to hold a grudge. And as a daughter grows, a parent's concerns range from body image to math bias.
At the Magi Society, we initiated our free Certification Program in 2000. From 2000 until November of 2005, we accepted only a very limited number of Certification Candidates because we did not have the staff to train a large number of candidates. But that has changed.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- European astronomers have found a trio of "super-Earths" closely circling a star that astronomers once figured had nothing orbiting it.
The discovery demonstrates that planets keep popping up in unexpected places around the universe. The announcement is the first time three planets close to Earth's size were found orbiting a single star, said Swiss astronomer Didier Queloz.

I often say that I spend more time and energy on my one boy than on my three girls. Other mothers of boys are quick to say the same. Forget that old poem about snips and snails and puppy dog tails, says Sharon O'Donnell, a mom of three boys and the author of "House of Testosterone." "Somehow it's been changed to boys being made of 'fights, farts, and video games,' and sometimes I'm not sure how much more I can take!"
